Q. How Do I connect the UV-100 to my computer?

A. With your UV-100 there will be a data cable included. This may be a RS-232 to USB adapter, a USB-USB cable, or both. All of these cables will plug into any USB port on your computer. The RS-232 to USB cable will require the the drivers to be installed onto your computer.

Q. What COM Port should I choose when setting up my UV-100 on the Hyper Terminal?

A. Normally the COM port used will be the highest number. This is due to the fact that all COM ports are already assigned, you added one additional port when you plugged in the UV-100. On my computer for example I used COM port #6 which was the highest port.

Q. How do I know I am correctly connected to the UV-100 and receiving data?

A. When the UV-100 is ON and measuring ozone (there is a reading on the display). This reading will be automatically sent to your computer every 10 Seconds. After you have set up the Hyper Terminal simply wait to see if data shows up. If it does not, try another COM port. If you cannot get data using any COM ports check your settings in your Hyper Terminal Settings.

Q. Why can't I get into the Menu?

A. If you are pressing in the function knob and not finding the Menu, be patient. It actually takes more than a few seconds to get the screen to change to the Menu screen. We have found it takes up to 30 seconds on some units.

Q. How do I export the data?

A. There are many ways of doing this. The following is the method I prefer. Go to the Transfer drop down list at the top of the Hyper Terminal screen. Choose capture text, enter a file name and directory you would like this information to be saved to. Only after you have done this press the XMT button on the UV-100. Your data will be saved in a text file. This can now be copied and pasted into an Excel spreadsheet or any other location you prefer.

Q. What does this data mean?

A. The data is separated by comma's, see an example below.
1,0.00,299.4,698.0,30/04/2008,14:36:33

1 = Data indicator, this was data sample #1, these numbers will continue consecutively

0.00 = Ozone reading in PPM

299.4 = Temperature in Kelvin, the ozone reading is temperature compensated

698.0 = Pressure in Torr, the ozone reading is pressure compensated

30/4/2008 = The date this data was captured

14:36:33 = This is the time stamp, in military time, with minutes and seconds displayed

Q. How often are is the data logged?

A. A data point is captured every 10 seconds, this is not user settable.

Q. How long can I log data?

A. As long as you want. But, the UV-100 will only store about 2 days worth of data. The oldest data will simply be lost and overwritten with the newest data point.

Q. If I turn the unit OFF will I loose the data?

A. No, you will not loose the data by turning the UV-100 OFF. Also you can disconnect power from the UV-100 for short periods of time without loosing the data. However if you intend to unplug the UV-100 frequently and store data the UV-100 battery B-1 may be a useful accessory.
